Miss Pacific Island Pageant PNG

Designs wow crowd during fashion runway

Common things associated with everyday lives of Papua New Guineans, from coconut fronds to woven mat, chicken feathers to kauri shells, bilums to laplap, were all used in the three-hour fashion frenzy at the Lamana Hotel, in Port Moresby.

10 local designers amazed the crowd bringing a definite 'wow' factor as expected, with designs inspired by the diverse unique culture, flora and fauna of PNG.

Project Runway supporting women entrepreneurs

The runway, to be held at Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby, is to attract local designers to show off their work.

This is with the objective to select a fashion stylist for Miss PNG, the PNG entrant to the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in Samoa in December. This will also provide local talented designers a unique opportunity to showcase their work on the regional platform at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.

According to the committee, there will be three categories on show at the Project Runway; the traditionally inspired dress, sarong wear and day/evening wear.
