SVSG work boosted by new ambulance

Eseta Frost, a member of SVSG Queensland says the donation could not come at a better time as there is a need to provide help to victims of abuse across the island.

SVSG Patron Tuisugaletaua Aveau Sofara has applauded the assistance of its branch in Queensland.

 “We see every day the rise in these numbers. The cases of abuse and the many victims calling for help. It's because of the awareness we have put up and now our people know there is help out there,” he said.

Victim support group appeals to public for funds

SVSG board member, Mulipola Anarosa Molioo is appealing for support from the public.

"Since the establishment of SVSG more than 10 years ago, the number of victims has grown much greater than ever, and with the more cases and victims coming in, the more funds we need," said Mulipola.

"SVSG usually runs on $800,000 Tala a year and that may sound like a lot for many. But it’s a costly devotion to ensuring the abused and unfortunate are getting the treatment they need," said Mulipola.

Samoa NGO to take action against Ministry of Police

The group is unhappy the ministry moved one of its services to the top level of the two storey building the NGO uses as its head office.

Victim Support recently renovated the building with most of the aid from the Japanese government and it says no funding came from the police.

The group's treasurer, Sam Fruean, says it is also concerned people might not feel good about visiting the Victim Support head office now.

Samoa Victim Support president gets backing in court

The president and two other women are facing a charge of attempting to defeat the course of justice.

The charges were brought following an inquiry after a police assault case was withdrawn three years ago.

A senior police officer, who has been suspended, had been charged separately in relation to the same case, but the prosecution wants both cases heard together.

 

 

Samoa Victim Support president charged with interference

The charges come after a police internal inquiry relating to the withdrawal of an alleged assault case three years ago.

The Police Commissioner, Egon Keil, says Ms. Chang has been released on bail, and has surrendered her passport.

She is due to appear in court in September.
