Suspended police commissioner

Suspended Samoa Police Commissioner to return to work Tuesday

Tuilaepa, who is also the Minister of Police, announced the reinstatement in his weekly radio interview on Thursday.

This comes after Parliament on Tuesday urgently debated and passed an amendment to the Police Powers Act, giving the Minister of Police the powers on the advice of the Attorney General, to arm officers during police operations.

Another adjournment in Samoa police commissioner case

RNZ reports Fuiavailili Egon Keil is facing four criminal charges over an unlawful arrest by the police of a man at the Fugalei market last year including one charge of unlawful detention, one of perjury, as well as one of providing false statements and disorderly conduct.

This time the National Prosecution office, which is temporarily under the supervision of the Attorney General, has asked for the case to be adjourned until an overseas lawyer arrives to represent the prosecution.

Who that lawyer will be is not known and the hearing is postponed until November 11th.
