Rennie apologies for criticising referees

A succession of decisions by referee Mike Adamson, his officiating team and television match official (TMO) Marius Jonker left Rennie frustrated with the coach defending his decision to go public with his complaints.

"Dave Rennie wishes to apologise to the match officials and to World Rugby for the choice of language used in post-match media commitments following the Wallabies Test match against Wales in Cardiff," Rugby Australia said in a statement.

Guscott tells refs to keep an eye on the All Blacks

The All Blacks had two players sin-binned during the game and two players - Sam Cane and Malakai Fekitoa - have been cited for dangerous tackles.

A number of Irish reports described the All Blacks performance as brutal.

In his BBC column Guscott says referees need to look harder at New Zealand.

"World champions New Zealand play everything at an incredible intensity. They understand the laws of the game, where the boundaries are and how the referee might react. They use it to their advantage.

Owens says TMO used too much

Modern professional matches are routinely punctuated for rulings by the TMO on everything from the scoring of tries to foul play, offside in the build-up to a try and off the ball incidents.

Owens said he accepts the reasoning but felt the option was being over-used.

"I can understand that people at games want to see the same thing people do at home, or in the hospitality boxes, but replays can make a huge difference -- in players reacting on the field, supporters reacting," he said.
