Vatuvei tastes debut defeat for Salford

Vatuvei made his debut for the Salford Red Devils in the 27-14 semifinal defeat at Wigan on Sunday (Monday NZ Time).

Salford - playing their first semifinal for 19 years - were stung by two early Wigan tries as the Warriors raced out to a 12-0 lead.

But Salford, who finished fourth in the Super League minor premiership, surged back with tries to Greg Johnson and Tyrone McCarthy and three goals to Michael Dobson to lead 14-12 at halftime.

Daniel Vidot: Samoa international leaves Salford Red Devils for Australia-return

Vidot, 26, joined Salford in November 2015 and the Samoa international scored six tries in 10 games during anĀ injury-affected season.

The former Brisbane three-quarter also had a trial with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2015.

"We understand that family is hugely important," head coach Ian Watson said.

"Daniel provides a lot for his loved ones, and we were never going to stand in his way when he said he wanted to go back."
