Samoa Cabinet wears pink in support of Pinktober

Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa and Cabinet Ministers were dressed in pink at their meeting on Wednesday.

Cabinet will wear pink attire every Wednesday throughout the Pinktober month of October.

Pinktober is invaluable for education and advocacy and driven by Government, the Samoa Cancer Society and stakeholders to encourage the public to take preventative health measures and use assistance rendered by the Society and the Ministry of Health.

Beyonce's father Mathew Knowles reveals breast cancer diagnosis

The 67-year-old told Good Morning America he was "doing really good" after having surgery in July.

Breast cancer 'can return 15 years after treatment ends'

Women with large tumours and cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes had the highest 40% risk of it coming back.

Researchers writing in the New England Journal of Medicine said extending treatment with hormone therapy could reduce the risk of it recurring.

Scientists analysed the progress of 63,000 women for 20 years.

Samoa hopes for breast screening programme next year

The CEO, Shelley Burich said Samoa had a mammogram machine but not enough technical staff to use it and read the images.

Mediterranean diet linked to lower risk of breast cancer type

The study, which was conducted in the Netherlands, followed 62,573 women ages 55 to 69 who tracked their diets for more than 20 years starting in 1986 as part of a cohort study. During the study, 3,354 participants developed breast cancer. After excluding cases based on a history of cancer or incomplete dietary data, research analyzed 2,321 breast cancer cases.

The researchers found that post-menopausal estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer was 40% less prevalent in those who adhered closely to the Mediterranean diet.
