Samoa's Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa speaks to senior officers of the ministries under her portfolio

Speaking at a special prayer meeting, Fiame said while they are from different divides of the country, public servants are the caretakers and the support arm of the government.

She said public servants are chosen because they have the right qualifications to perform required duties within the public service but politicians make decisions based on advice from them.

Fiame told them their beliefs and feelings are theirs but not to let them affect how they work.

Samoa Energy Sector releases new logo

National Energy Coordination Committee Secretary, Leasiosiofa’asisina Oscar Malielegaoi explained the features of the logo.

“The sun illustrates the main source of energy and the house depicts solar roofing and energy efficient housing.”

“The chimney of the house is a wind turbine, the road depicts energy efficient transportation and the plug represents all electrical appliances connected to the natural source – the sun.”

“The drop of water is seen on the tip of the leaf and depicts hydro power.”

“The green leaf illustrates the environment,” he said.  

Alleged ministry fraud probed in Samoa

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure were being investigated, according to a report in the Samoa Observer.

The environment ministry's CEO, Ulu Bismarck Crawley, confirmed the investigation but would not disclose the amount of money missing.

Ulu said three employees implicated had been reassigned to other divisions of the ministry while they awaited the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation into the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure comes as around $US5000 has gone missing.
