Samoa to host Commonwealth Women Affairs Ministerial Meeting

There will also be a number of side meetings during this time.

They include the Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action for Gender Equality 2005 – 2015 Monitoring Group; Senior Officials Meeting and
Partners Forum.

The Government of Samoa and the Commonwealth Secretariat will partner in coordinating the meeting.

Six new Chief Executive Officers for Government Ministries

The appointments were approved by Cabinet.

Two CEOs have been reappointed to their previous posts. They are the CEOs for the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Afioga Lavea Tupaimatuna Iulai Lavea and for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Afioga Tuaimalo Asamu Ah Sam.

Cabinet approves commemoration of World Toilet Day

The event is taking place at the Samoa Tourism grounds at Eleele Fou.

The theme for this year is “Toilet First, Sanitation for All”. The focus is promotion and emphasis on building toilets according to Government’s set standards and guidelines.

Samoan national jailed for raping Swedish tourist in Queensland

Ivan Galuega, 24, pleaded guilty in the Bundaberg District Court yesterday afternoon to two counts of rape, one of burglary with violence and one count of assault with intent to rape.

The court heard Galuega had been staying at the same hostel as his 20-year-old victim in June 2014 and struck up a friendship with her.

Samoa opposition MP loses seat over vote transfer

But the MP who holds the seat Levaopolo Talatonu maintains he is still the sitting MP for the Gaga'emauga number 2 seat constituency.

The speaker Laauli Leuatea Polataivao says the decision was made following confirmation from the Electoral Commissioner that the MP's electoral vote would be transferred from Gaga'emauga number 2 to Salega East constituency.

A new partnership to boost the promotion of human rights in Samoa

The signing took place between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of Ombudsman also known as the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI).

The purpose of the this partnership, officially launched at the signing ceremony that took place earlier today at the UN Compound in Matautu-Uta, is to join efforts to raise awareness, improve knowledge and address misconceptions about human rights in Samoan communities.

Two Samoan girls attend a global conference on climate change in Sweden

Narissa Feagaiga and Elena Ioane, both from Savai‘i, are two of the sixty-four children from around the world that have been selected as delegates to attend the Children‘s Climate Change Conference, a meeting that will be held in Sweden from 25 to 28 November.

The two girls were identified during the official travel of Par Ahlberger, the Ambassador of the Government of Sweden to Samoa, who visited the country the last week of October.

PM impressed with businessman’s entrepreneurial skills

Tuilaepa recently accepted an invitation by Home Café's owner Horace Evans to  visit his restaurant at Malifa.

Operating on a recycling ethos of re-using and re-purposing everyday items, Evans impressed the Prime Minister with his entrepreneurial efforts and unique take on hospitality in Samoa.

"It's good to see young, small-business owners such as Horace find their niche and be successful at it.
