11,258 new cases, 76 further deaths attributed to the virus in NZ

Of the new cases, 4712 were reinfections.

RNZ reports there were also 211 people with Covid-19 in hospital as of midnight Sunday, with seven cases in ICU.

The seven-day rolling average of cases was 1605.

Last week 11,544 new cases were reported and 12 further deaths attributed to Covid-19.

New Zealand reports 9100 new cases, 40 deaths and 200 in hospital

Of the new cases, were 3813 reinfections.

Of the deaths being reported today, one was from Northland, 15 were from the Auckland region, two were from Hawke's Bay, two were from Taranaki, one was from MidCentral, two were from Whanganui, five were from Wellington region, three were from Nelson Marlborough, four were from Canterbury, one was from West Coast and three were from Southern.

Samoa records drop in positive Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that this is a drop from the nine cases recorded in the previous weekly situational report.

MOH said, “The results came from both PCR and rapid antigen test - RAT from all sites with the cumulative number of Covid-19 positive cases (border and community cases) climbing to 16,008.”

“From 2pm 18 December 2022 to 2pm 25 December 2022, the Ministry recorded nine positive cases from all sites as well.”

A total of 15,816 Covid-19 positive cases were detected in the last year since the first community transmission was reported.

Covid number increasing in French Polynesia

There are now 400 active cases.

RNZ Pacific reports four people with Covid-19 are in hospital - one of them in intensive care.

Local television says one Covid-9 patient died in hospital last week, but the death has not been included in the pandemic's tally.

There have been repeated calls for people to update their vaccination status as only 23 percent of those over 60 have had a booster.

Last year when the territory was hit by an outbreak of the Delta variant, more than 600 people died, of whom more than 94 percent had not been vaccinated.

     

Covid scuppers news coverage in Wallis & Futuna

Too many staff have been affected by the resurgence of the pandemic which since June has caused almost 1800 infections.

The station will instead carry French news.

In Wallis, the outbreak peaked last week, and health authorities expect it to climax in Futuna at the end of the month.

Six people with covid-19 are in hospital.

Most people decided against getting vaccinated.

     

Number of Australians who have had Covid-19 jumps in June survey

Researchers have conducted their second "serosurvey", testing blood donations for the presence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, to find the prevalence of infection had almost tripled since late February when it was estimated to be 17 per cent.

Kirby Institute senior research fellow Dr Dorothy Machalek said while the results revealed there was a "huge amount" of community transmission, it was not a surprise.

Over 70 new Covid cases in Samoa

The new statistics takes the total number of the cases (community and border) to 15,318.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the numbers were recorded from 2:00pm 19 July, to 2pm 21 July, 2022.

The MOH also confirmed that there are two patients currently isolated at the Moto’otua National Hospital and none at the Intensive Care Unit.

“We continued to implore the public to please remain vigilant and adhere to public health advice from time to time.”

21 new Covid cases in Samoa

The cases include 20 new community cases and 1 new imported case, taking the total number of cases (community and border) to 15,155.

There are three patients currently isolated at the Moto’otua National Hospital.

To help contain the spread of the virus and prevent new infections, the public is kindly urged to please continue to take heed of public health advice to continue to wear masks and maintain good personal hygiene.

Samoa's Health Ministry reports more Covid cases

The Ministry's latest reporting period data shows that 50 new community cases were reported from June 27 to 29.

The total number of community and border cases now stands at 14,964.

There were no Covid-related deaths during the period in review and the total number of deaths since 17 March 2022 remains at 29.

So far 158,240 rapid antigen tests have been given since the first community case was confirmed.

The Ministry continues to promote vaccination as the best defense against the severe effects of the virus.

31 new Covid cases in Samoa

One patient is currently in managed isolation and none at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Moto’otua Hospital.

The total number of cases (community and border) is 14,843.

The Ministry of health is reminding the public to remain vigilant and adhere to public health advice by continuing to wear facial masks, complying with social distancing, stay home and isolate if one feels unwell, and maintain good personal hygiene at all times.
