Samoa Prison and Corrections officers compete Operational Safety Tactics Training Course

The Samoa Police Force said “The intense training course was conducted for over two months and it saw staff members be well-trained in certain skills and capabilities which are proven to be essential in the role of a prison officer/guard.”

Japan gifts new police patrol boat to Samoa

Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa and Japanese Ambassador Keisuke Senta marked the launching of the boat with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Consecrated and named The Tilafaiga, the boat is valued at more than half a million US dollars.

According to the Japanese Government, the boat will help ensure the maritime safety of its neighbours and ocean territory.

     

Samoa Police members off to Pre-deployment training

The officers were selected from a group,  who applied for the United Nations Peacekeeping deployment, pre-deployment training and UNSAAT.

Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo conveyed words of encouragement for the selected members.

“You are Samoa’s ambassadors to Indonesia; this will be the opportunity to be a part of a bigger goal- being deployed in UN missions.”

He further encouraged and challenged the members to use the opportunity wisely.”

Two females and eight male officers will undergo training by UN trainers for the next three weeks in Jakarta.

Samoa Police Constable John Bosco Salā completes narcotic detector dog training

A Police statement said the 37- year old is one of the few Pasifika law enforcers that were a part of the narcotic detector dog training course.

“The training course aims to help train and build Pacific agencies' dog section capacity and capability, namely Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands and Samoa, known to be part of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade supported Pacific Detector Dog Programme (PDDP) with New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs.”

Samoa participates in US Government’s International Police Peacekeeping Operation Support Programme

SPPCS Inspector Joseph Taioalo, Sergeant Mapusaga Sheppard, Sergeant Tuifao Luatua and Principal Policy Folasāitu Taramara Mu Talauta took part in the workshop alongside colleagues from Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Kiribati and Fiji.

Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo said, "Samoa Police has a history of providing peacekeepers regionally through the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomom Islands (RAMSI) and on an international level through the United Nations; to places such as Liberia, Darfur, Timor-Leste, and South Sudan.”

Samoa Police unveils new Family Violence Policy

The policy is a significant step towards preventing domestic violence and ensuring the safety and well-being of families.

It was created through consultation with various stakeholders, including, the Australia Federal Police (AFP) led Samoa Australia Police Partnership (SAPP), judicial members, Samoa Police Executive, Domestic Violence Unit, and the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG).

Samoa Police out to recruit highly skilled and capable officers

This Force has launched its interim training facility for new recruits.

The new facility was launched by Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Pat Conroy during his first visit to Samoa last week.

A statement said Minister Conroy, who is also the Minister for Defence Industry, visited the Samoa Police Maritime Wing to see the important efforts being made to protect Samoa's waters.

Promotions for 57 Police, Prisons and Corrections officers

The Hall of Tupulaga at Sogi was filled with family, friends and colleagues on Wednesday to mark the hard work and determination demonstrated by selected members to reach this new milestone.

All promoted officers went through a vigorous process including sitting the set law exams and going through individual interviews.

New fingerprint software to benefit Samoa Police

The equipment was made available through the Samoa Australia Police Partnership (SAPP). 

The AFIS system, which is capable of storing up to 50,000 records, enables investigators to efficiently search and compare fingerprints from a database, aiding in the identification of known or unknown suspects.

Stolen items, drugs seized in raid in Samoa

A search warrant was executed at one of the suspect’s residences last Friday afternoon resulting in the recovery of stolen items.

Police said a 48-year-old man was arrested.

The alleged stolen items are noted to have been sold to the suspect by burglars of previous burglary and theft cases.

The other three suspects including a 46-year-old, a 30-year old and a 29-year-old were found at the residence at the time of the raid.
